We have been working with tone for the last few weeks in class, and it is time to start utilizing tone in your writing.
Before we begin, please recall that tone is the overall “attitude” or “feel” of a writing piece. Tone is made up of three main components: 1) Diction 2) Imagery 3) Figurative language. So, as you complete the task listed below be sure to utilize these three writing strategies.
Your Task Today:
Compose a blog entry in which you utilize tone. Describe a time you and a friend went to a sporting event that started off really fun, but quickly turned sour. Write two paragraphs. The first paragraph should be in a “happy” tone and the second in a “negative” or “upset tone.” Use Diction, Imagery, and Figurative Language to create the tone.
(Note: If you cannot think of a time when you and your friends went to a sporting event, make one up!)
Rubric for Writing in Tone:
Proficient – 2 paragraphs entered in class blog about their experience in a sports event, the 1st paragraph is composed in a happy tone, the second in a sad tone – students should utilize words, images, and fig language to create a specific tone, each paragraph is a least 5 sentences.
Non- Proficient – less than 2 paragraphs, paragraphs do not differ in tone, and students do not use words, images, and fig language to their advantage, each paragraph is less than 5 sentences.

It was eigth grade,me and my class had went on a trip to baltimore. Me and my sister matched looking like skittles. Everyone wore chucks and skinny jeans. We were all excited about the baseball game we were going to. I had liked this boy so I planned on being with him for the most part of that day. Luckily for me it worked out. We were all dancing,laughing talking jus having a good time. This was the best trip I've ever had I kept thinking. My friends were all having fun and I thought it would just get better and better. The game was over we were leaving to go home and thats when it all went down hill.
Me and my friend started arguing! It turns out she liked the same boy I did. Oh well I thought you should have told me. The whole ride home we argued I know everyone was tired of it, I know I was. She wouldn't shut up,I had to kepp going I love to have the last word. Finally I said you know what after this we are no longer friends. She looked at me as if I told her the dog died. She said fine and it got very quiet. No one knew what to say the day was great we all had planned on getting back on the bus and just having fun with the little time we had left. No it didn't happen like that,yeah we became friends again later.That night I decided to quit on boys forever. I never did though.
I remeber like it was yesterday it was me, my cousin Gio, and my little brother justin. It was a warm summer day and i was in like sixth grade and we went to the football field to watch the game. It was the Camden Hurricanes and they were playing some philly team. So when we first got their everything was good we were having fun watching the game. Then all of a sudden my little brother started having some type of temper tantrum it was out of nowhere. I tried calming him down but he just would not stop crying so i treid ignoring him and that didnt work either. Now in the back of my mind i just started noticing this was a bad idea in the first place i should of never brought I think four or five year old with me . But then again i didnt have a choice my mom made me bring him. Anyway so after like five minutes i couldnt take it anymore i had grabbed him and took him home which ruined my day because he made me leave the game and miss everything. One of the worst days with a little kid and my cousin just found it funny because Justin was crying.
me and my friend tyler play hockey all the time. We decided to go to s hockey game at the holly dell hockey arena. The game was going very good are team was winning and the crowd was going wild. at the end of the second intermission are favorite team was winning 4-1.
the third period started and are team was just going through the motion! they were so hyped in the first and second period. now it was as if they were just a bunch of bums not even trying. tyler and i were screaming because we had no clue what happened. they ended up losing 5-4. tyler and i were not happy!
-my first time goin to a sports game everyone was happy to take a break off from school.when we got there they wasnt haveing a game they were showin us around the place & how it goes ! DISAPPOINTMENT!!
One time i had gone to a swimming camp with my friend and we were having the best fun ever. We swam every day. They feed us great food me and my friend all ways use to play together we were best friends a long time ago, but the last day we got in to a argument.
The argument was about a girl she liked me but I dint and he liked her but she dint so. He got mad at me. She kept wanting to get with me but he got mad at me so he tryed starting a fight with me but i refuce to hit him so I left and she folowed me but our friend ship got a little mest up only for a girl.
