Today we are going to try a new type of learning, a style of learning that requires you take charge of what you accomplish in one forty minute lesson. We are going to try “Discovery Learning.”
Discovery Learning allows you to be in control of important concepts and skills that you learn in class.
Your goal today is to define, explain, and utilize oxymorons and paradoxes in your writing. You may use any tool or website that you find helpful.
In your post, include the following:
- A definition of BOTH terms
- An Example and Non-Example of each
- Write a short piece in which you use 1 oxymoron and 1 paradox.
- Use complete sentences
10 comments:
1. oxymorons-two things that are opposite but used for the same thing.
2.paradox-i don't know what that means.
3. I know what an oxymoron is but i just don't know how to use it.
4.I don't know what a paradox is.
Oxymoron -A figure of speech in which contradicting terms appear in conjunction
-- the opposite words next to each oter
ex: JumboShrimp , pretty ugly , shy outgoing, ..
--sentence: today is my big little brothers birthday. :)
Paradox - is contridiction
-- when something is niether true or false
ex: -when pinocciho says his nose will grow and it doesnt he's lying , if his nose grows because he lied he'd still be tellin the truth because he sais his nose would grow.
-- Sentence: my mom says that my hair is a mess :)
Oxymorons examples:silent scream, sweet tart and same difference. It seem that the words are side by side. That are the oppisite of what its saying.
Paradoxes is
Oxymorons - figure of speech that two words that do not agree with each other or means two different things that are put together in one. Combine 2 words, a description of a phrase.
Examples; Bittersweet, Pretty-ugly, open secret"
Paradoxes - is a/group of statement that seems contradictory or absurd but, is actually true. Is a sentence. Paradox is considered to be an action that is contradictory.

Example; Consider the butterfly. They are jewels that flit though your garden and are necessary to your garden's health, yet they come from caterpillars who eat your garden
Contradictions; combination of statements, ideas, or features of a situation that are opposed to one another. Sounds like it's making sense.
So the first definition is oxymoron, an oxymoron is two words that contradict there selves. For example "the gun made a quiet boom”. My second word is Paradox, a paradox is words that are self contradictory but cannot both be true. For example “The trainer told his fighter no pain, no gain”.
Oxymoron is a figure of speech in which is contradicts itself.---Here are some examples from my knowledge of oxymorons: wise fool, and laughing sadness. But on the other hand, i believe paradox is way more exagerating and has some truth to it. Don't go near the water until you've learned to swim. It has some truth to it..BUT just because you can't swim that doesnt mean you shouldn't go "near" the swimming pool. Feel me?
oxymuron is when you have 2 words that controdict each other such as
example.
the (living dead)
the (old new) one
non-example.
the (lifeless dead) guy
the (old antique) clock
Oxymorons: are figures of speech in which you use a words or phrase putting the words out of place making it seem the opposite.
(My dog slowly ran fast)
Paradoxes:
****NOT FINISH****
An oxymoron is two words that mean the opposite but come together as a conjuction.
The girl went to the doctor and he told her she was a little pregnant.
A paradox is a statement that contridicts its self.
Love is pain.
paradoxes-it is true and fales.something that can happine and not happine.example: when a cop runs a red light and you do the same and you get punished.
oxymorons-So fair and foul a day I have not seen!
William Shakespeare
